In the largest vote ever recorded in Marion County, voters gave Republican national and state officeholders overwhelming majorities in Tuesday’s election with a tidal sweep for Eisenhower here, as elsewhere. Over 92% of all registered voters in the city went to the polls. The huge turnout of citizens, aided by perfect weather, entered the polling booths and marked their preferences.

Mr. and Mrs. Jake Hein went to Fort Benning, Ga., Oct. 24 to attend the graduation of their son, Robert H. Hein, from officers’ candidate school.

Grades 4, 5, and 6 had a Halloween party Friday evening at the high school gym. Prizes were won by Sharon Blankley, Connie Eckstrom, Sue Haizlip, first; Rosalie Dohner, Dennis Navrat, Sharon Propp, second; and Delbert Matz, Karen Thole, Bill Good, third.

The high school girls’ triple trio will entertain Thursday evening when the Kiwanis Club will host city teachers as guests at dinner. Members of the triple trio are Nancy Allen, Neva Stenzel, Karen Brodhead, Nancy Broadstreet, Anita Collett, Kay Navrat, Carolyn Merrill, Shirley Tiemeier, and Judy Thatch. Marilyn Reh is their accompanist.

Births at St. Luke Hospital this week included those of Gerry Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Strotkamp, and Duane Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Osman of Cedar Point, both born Oct. 30.
