Ira Newcomer, well-known Marion resident for many years, was elected mayor for a three-year term Monday in the city election.

Glen Strotkamp, 22, of near Burns luckily escaped possible serious injury Saturday morning when the tractor he was operating overturned on him, pinning him underneath for some time until enough help could be summoned to remove the machine. He was bruised but very fortunately not seriously hurt.

Among those who heard the Messiah at Lindsborg Sunday were Kathryn Popp, Wilma Geis, John Hett, Herbert Regier, Violet Krispense, Carol Krispense, Dalmer Kaufman, and Verla Mae Bernhardt.

Mark and Edward Saylor of Topeka were weekend guests of their cousin, Dick Hoch. In addition to his guests, Dick entertained Bruce Wingerd and David Montgomery for dinner and a slumber party Friday evening.

“Bells on Their Toes,” sequel to “Cheaper by the Dozen,” has been selected for the senior class play to be given May 1. The cast includes Anita Longhofer, Theodora Longhofer, Shirley Tiemeier, Genny Krch, Mike Brodhead, Jay Fisher, Peggy Hayward, Gerald Tajchman, Dean Williams, John Summervill, Pauline Minear, Myron Jantz, Don Burkholder, Nancy Allen, Dwight Fruechting, Duane Fruechting, David Wheeler, and Ronald Hiebert.
