Winner of the First Baby award for 1954 is Billy Roger Baxter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Baxter. The baby arrived at St, Luke Hospital at 2:33 p.m. Jan. 3. The Baxters moved to Marion from Hartshorne, Okla., in September. He is employed at the Marion municipal light plant.

“The Ordeal of Chaplain Kapaun” is the title of an article which will appear in the Jan. 16 issue of the Saturday Evening Post, according to word received this week. Concerted efforts in a number of quarters over the country are being made to set up a suitable memorial for the Pilsen chaplain and funds are being raised for that purpose.

Max Gail Merrill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gail Merrill, has been appointed cadet captain in the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps at the University of Kansas.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vlk, Marion, announce the engagement of their daughter, Rose Marie, to Harold Vinduska of Pilsen. No wedding date has been set.

Jan Hayen was the guest of Tommy Good over the weekend while his parents were visiting in Erie.

Mr. and Mrs. Karl Schroeder entertained guests Thursday evening at a fresh lobster dinner preceding the dance at the Country Club. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Cook and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hauser.
