The 1955 automobile and truck license plates, almost five tons of them, were received recently at the county treasurer’s office. The new plates are again of steel construction and outlined in the shape of the state.

Ralph Popp, local carpenter and contractor, has been hired by Mack Lumber Co. to manage their yard in Marion, recently purchased from the Badger Lumber Company. He will take over as manager Oct. 1st.

Mr. and Mrs. Gail Merrill entertained with a square dance at the Legion hall Friday night in honor of their silver wedding anniversary which occurred Sept. 8. Twelve sets danced to the calling of Frank Lane, popular young Kansas square dance caller.

Mr. and Mrs. Pete Schambron took their daughter, Carol Jean, to Dodge City Sunday where she entered St. Mary of the Plains Junior College to take preliminary college work before entering nurse training.

Leroy Schmidt, 8, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Schmidt of south of Canada, was the lucky bicycle winner in the “Key” brand jean and overall contest at Jackson’s Clothing Store. Undersheriff Ezra Bernhardt is pictured drawing the winning name.

A swimming party had been planned by Coterie Club for their first meeting of the year but after assembling at the Country Club they decided the spring water in the pool was a little too cool for comfort and enjoyed visiting instead.
