The Legion of Merit, one of the Army’s highest awards to non-combatants, was awarded posthumously last week to the late Chaplain Emil J. Kapaun, hero Pilsen priest whose fame continues to spread across the country. He had previously been given the Distinguished Service Cross and oak leaf cluster.

Marion Gift Shop, owned and operated by Mrs. Albert Bernhardt, will open in Marion this coming Saturday. Mrs. Bernhardt has remodeled the east room of their building and added attractive fixtures which are well stocked with all types of gift items.

At an impressive Court of Honor Monday night at the American Legion hall, 11 Marion Boy Scouts received awards. Pictured are Scouts Lane Broadstreet, Steve Seaton, Marion Kelsey, Michael Seaton, Junior Wiebe, Bill Good, Larry Evans, Dennis Navrat, James Melton and Earl Winter.

Mrs. Jack Helmer, assisted by Mrs. Gene Boettcher, entertained the following children and their mothers Friday afternoon for her daughter, Shirley Ann’s 2nd birthday: Linda and Brenda Helmer, Vickie Boese, Susan, Becky and Janie Lentz, Stanley, Steven and Gregory May, Galen and Ginger Helmer, Karen Keazer, and Kendall Helmer.

Mrs. Earl Rogers had the misfortune to fall at Wingerd’s grocery, where she is a checker, Wednesday evening, breaking her elbow.
