The new home of Mrs. Walter Rupp at 327 Elm in Marion is the third in the series of attractive new homes in Marion. Mrs. Rupp and her two children, Marlys and John, moved into their new home the latter part of June, following the completion of the house by Bill Buethe, Marion builder.

Edward W. Colburn took his oath of office this Monday as Probate Judge and County Court Judge, thereby completing the first change in 26 years in this important Marion County office. He succeeds Jay E. Hargett.

Verlin Meier was selected to be the “junior Kiwanian” for the second semester. Bob Mehlinger held that honor the first semester. The Kiwanis club sponsors a complimentary membership for one senior boy and he attends the regular Monday noon meetings of the club.

A freak winter storm, with lightning, did damage at the Wm. Christensen home west of Marion Wednesday of last week. At about 4 a.m. lightning struck the TV antenna and entered the home at the TV set. It broke a window nearby and made a hole in the wall of an upstairs room.

Edwin Wheeler, son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Wheeler, graduated mid-year from Washburn and has accepted a position in the legal department with the Santa Fe Railroad. The family will continue to reside in Topeka.
