With around six inches of snow in some areas Friday night and the thermometer down to one degree above zero, folks hope it’s the last bad fling of winter.

Marion High School’s track team took nine firsts out of 16 events in the triangular meet Tuesday with Herington and Council Grove at Herington. Firsts were recorded by Bledsoe, 440; Richards, shot put; Lais, high jump; Williams, discus; and Konarik, 180-yard hurdles. The thin-clads also won all three relays.

Quite a number of new trees have arrived and have been planted at the city’s Central Park and at the Waterworks Park.

Mrs. Joe Atherton entertained a group of girls Saturday afternoon in honor of Jo-Ellen’s 10th birthday. Guests included Betty Jean Tipton, Jean Morse, Deloris David, Edith Ann Jewett, Mary Melton, Loretta Fullmer, Donna Newsom, Anita Schlehuber, Ruth Lais, and Dianne Davis of Wichita.

Boyd Linnens, Marion, was present to claim the Cash Night jackpot of $120 at the Kaw Theatre Monday night. Next week’s prize will be $15.

Members and friends of the Presbyterian congregation are delighted with the new interior decoration of the church. Mrs. J.E. Tibbetts, Mrs. Alex Case, and Mrs. Jay Beaston served as the committee in selecting color schemes. The work was supervised by the board of trustees with Max Jackson as chairman of the project.
