An unusually large freshman class has enrolled at Marion High School boosting the early unofficial total to 182, as of Wednesday. Last year’s enrollment was 166. Total enrollment in the various classes breaks down as follows: Seniors 58, Juniors 34, Sophomores 33, and Freshmen 57.

Three finalists in the Marion County Fair Queen contest are Bonnie Harder, Margaret McClain, and Jeanette Russell. One of the three will be announced as queen on Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Collett announce the engagement of their daughter, Clarice Lucille, to William A. Hammer, son of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Hammer. No wedding date has been set.

The family of Mr. and Mrs. Otto McCarty gave a dinner Sunday at the recreation hall at the Marion County Lake honoring them on their 50th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. McCarty were married in the old courthouse by Probate Judge Vaughn on August 30, 1905.

Births announced this week include Leo Edward, son of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Waner of Marion, born August 31 at St. Luke Hospital; Abby Lorene, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Call of South Gate, California, born August 25; and Denise Marie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Conyers born August 28 at St. Luke Hospital.
