Most of Marion County’s creeks and streams are drying up as a result of the extended drouth—over a month without any appreciable rainfall except in isolated spots, and 6.72 inches under normal rainfall for the year.

Alfred J. Sparks, congenial proprietor of the Elgin Hotel in Marion for the past 35 years, died at St. Luke Hospital September 13, following a short illness. He would have been 79 years of age on the 25th of this month.

A reunion of the 40 classmates of Marion High School class of 1925 was held Sunday at the Marion Country Club. Among the 60 persons attending were high school faculty members, class members and their families, and former school superintendent W.J. Poundstone and wife of Winfield.

Mrs. Albert Stroda wasn’t present to claim $45.00 Monday night at Kaw Theatre. Next week’s Cash Night jackpot will be worth $60.00.

Births announced in this issue included twins, a boy and a girl, born Sept. 12 to Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hiebert of Kinsley; a daughter, Beverly Ann, born Sept. 8 at St. Luke Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. David Bowers; and a daughter, Debra Ann, born Sept. 10 at St. Luke Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Adams.
