“The Reservation,” Marion’s new recreation center for teenage youth of the community will open officially this Friday, Sept. 30. It is located in the Case building, west of Duckwall’s.

Announcement is made this week by Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Tuell of the sale of their West Side Motel, filling station and store to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Newton of Wichita. The Tuells have operated the West Side Camp for the past eight years. They will move Oct. 4 to Wichita.

A special added attraction to Old Settlers Day will be the State Championship American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps from Emporia, widely known as “The Plainsmen.”

For the first time in all the months Marion merchants have given added inducement of cash awards for people to come to town Wednesday afternoon, all five whose names were called were present this week. James W. Hett, Marion, received $140. Other winners were Joe Kristek, Ramona, $15; Mrs. T.W. Butcher, Marion, $10; Mrs. Elmer Scott, Marion, $5; and Fred Schimpf, Marion, $5.

Dale Christiansen, age 4, won the best dressed Cowboy and Cowgirl contest at the rodeo in Wichita Saturday. He won a pony, saddle and bridle for first prize. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Christiansen of Durham. Another son, Gordon, 8, and daughter, Mona, 9, won third place.
