George Janzen was boosted out of the usual Sunday morning routine at the Lincolnville service station Sunday when Nat King Cole and his big band, traveling in cars, stopped at the station. “There were cars and cars,” says Janzen who had the pleasure of meeting the famous star and talking with him. The caravan was on its way to Omaha from Oklahoma City.

What appears to be the first case of polio in Marion County in 1956 was reported Friday. Adeline Deines, 12-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Deines of near Lost Springs, was taken to St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, for treatment. Her condition remains unchanged at this time.

Free tickets are available from Marion merchants for the first Marion game in the Cottonwood Valley League Babe Ruth tournament July 17. The Marion team has gone through the season so far without a loss and is gunning for wider honors.

Girl Scout Troop 61 hiked to the county lake Tuesday morning, set up camp, cooked, and had their mothers as guests at lunch. Scouts involved were Jo Ellen Atherton, Edith Ann Jewett, Kay Amick, Betty Jean Tipton, Mary Melton, Sydney Hume, Sharon Nelson, Linda and Glenda May, Rose Marie Loveless, and Jean Morse.
