Marion schools were off to a fine start on the 1956-57 season this week, with registration and opening day going smoothly, according to word from Supt. R. Wm. Wygle. By coincidence, the total enrollment was exactly as the first day last year, 537 students.

Coach Ed Frickey reports 43 participants for positions on the 1956 Marion Warriors football team, with practice scheduled for Tuesday.

Jeanette Russell, Phyllis Thies, Jerry Dieter and Dean Kelsey left today for Enid, Oklahoma, where they will attend Phillips University this year.

Rev. William M. Runyan, who “rode the circuit” for Methodist church by horse and buggy in the early days, and his wife observed their 65th wedding anniversary in Texas recently. They were married in Marion Aug. 19, 1891.

Two bridal showers were reported in this issue. They include one at the home of Mrs. Ella Socolofsky honoring Ethel Joan Hiebert, with Mrs. James Blackim as co-hostess. Arlene Klein was guest of honor at a miscellaneous shower at the country club hosted Carlita Bass, Roma Collett, Joyce Seibel, and Jeanette Russell.

Nine young twirlers under the direction of Nancy Keazer marched in the youth parade at the Marion County Fair last week and received an award of $10 and a blue ribbon.
