Ed Frickey’s Warriors broke an old jinx Friday night when they tied Moundridge, 20-20, in the season opener. It is interesting to note that Marion outpointed Moundridge in all statistics except the score.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. John Britain whose little son, Thomas Winfred, weighing 7 pounds 2 ounces, arrived at St. Luke Hospital September 22.

Virginia Goentzel of the Morning Star neighborhood southwest of Marion was the victim of an unusual accident last week. Her hair got caught in the power-driven wringer on the family washing machine. Fortunately, she was able to get the power shut off before suffering extreme injury. But, she did receive painful bruises and after-effects where some of her hair was pulled out.

Mrs. Herman Behrendt asked small guests for a party Tuesday afternoon honoring her son Lloyd’s third birthday. The children had a fine time with games and favors. Those present included Shelley Batt, Sandra Hoover, Joy Laubhan, Gary Melcher, Brenda Kay Foth, Debra Vogt, and Steven Behrendt.

A raging fire
Thursday morning destroyed the recently completed rural home of Mrs. Helen Good Martin, located about five miles southeast of Marion. Accurate estimate of the total loss is difficult but it will probably run near $100,000. Mrs. Martin is the daughter of the late Josiah Good, well-known former Marion banker.
