The city is grading, surfacing, and blacktopping the one block on Weldon Street from Lincoln to Cedar this week, in response to a petition by property owners. This block is one that is much used, particularly during events at the high school gymnasium.

Mr. and Mrs. George King, who originally built and operated Kingfisher’s Inn at Marion County Lake, will resume management of the popular eating place Sept. 6. The eating place has been operated the past two or three years by Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bratton.

The last week of August marks the anniversary for two employees of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Marion. Winifred Eilerts Meierhoff celebrates 30 years as a switchboard operator in Marion. Neva Fruechting came here from Cottonwood Falls 20 years ago this week to go to work as switchboard operator. Upon the retirement of Dorothy Melcher in1951, she became cashier for the company.

Tina Holmes asked a group of friends to meet at her home Wednesday evening and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.K. Holmes, took them to the county fair at Hillsboro in celebration of Tina’s 11th birthday. Guests were Connie Warneke, Karen Keazer, Barbara Weber, Sandra Sawyer, Shirley Bredemeier, Sandra Kline, Donna Helmer, Donna Hanschu, and Gwen Broz. Afterward, the group returned to her home where ice cream and cake were served.
