The flu bug, of one kind or another, has hit Marion County schools pretty hard the past week. It is hoped the upcoming long weekend will return attendance to normal.

George Hauser, Marion’s eldest resident, who has lived here for 77 years and was 93 years old last February, bought one of the brand, spanking new Chevys this week from Cooke Motor Company, the first ’58 car delivered to a local person by the agency.

An interesting demonstration of how to build a posthole digger was given on the RFD program over KTVH television station Monday by four boys from the Future Farmers organization of Marion High School. The boys were Jerry Kline, Garry Vogel, Gary Helmer, and Leroy Schlesner.

Dale Miller, former teacher and popular coach at Marion High School, Mrs. Miller and their son, Dick, recently moved from their farm at Viola and now are all teaching at Tok Junction, Alaska.

The city teachers association hosted a carnival in the city building Saturday evening. Among the many activities was a popularity contest by the high school classes. Candidates were Molly Brodhead, Tom Shirley, seniors; Colleen Allen, Mickey Summervill, juniors; Joyce Remmers, Dennis Robertson, sophomores; and Julia Wooldridge, Jerry Schwemmer, freshmen. Finalists were Molly Brodhead and Jerry Schwemmer. They were crowned king and queen of the carnival.
