A shipment of a carload of special “tree banking” machines was made this week to a distributor in Florida’s citrus country. The machines are a modification of the well-known Tumaco Terracer, manufactured in Marion.

Mary Williams and Neil Hoopes have the leading parts in the senior class play, “Paint the Town Pink,” that will be presented this Friday evening in the auditorium of the city building. Three members of the faculty having roles in the comedy are Jim Criswell, Ruth Kohr, and Alton Harrison.

Wm. F. Schaeffler of Hillsboro, died Saturday at the age of 96. Mr. Schaeffler came to Hillsboro in 1883 and was a pioneer merchant of that community until his retirement from Schaeffler Mercantile Company in 1929.

Kiwanis president Bill Meyer was toastmaster and Chamber of Commerce president Bud Pierce welcomed a group of 150 businessmen and farmers Monday evening at the annual Farm-City Week dinner and meeting. Principal speaker of the evening was Dr. Howard T. Hill of Kansas State College.

Fred Knackstedt, chief of the Marion Fire Department, and eight firemen visited Cedar Rest this week for a thorough inspection of the building to familiarize the men with the floor plan, exits, etc. should they ever be called to fight a fire there. Alex Stratman, chief at Hillsboro and his men are expected to make the same type of inspection next week.
