The welcome addition of a new model 50 Austin-Western self-propelled street sweeper will be of real benefit to the City of Marion as it will keep not only the streets in the business district clean, but those in the residential districts as well. The cost was $6,802, with delivery direct from the factory at Aurora, Ill.

The French “Merci” car will be in Marion next Thursday. The interior has been converted to display many interesting and historical articles. It represents the reply of the people of France for the Friendship relief trains sent from this country in 1947.

Miss Jane Foster is Marion Country’s new home demonstration agent. She took over the duties of the office on Sept. 1.

Nora Zeller, Marion High School senior, has been appointed as the new secretary to the Marion Chamber of Commerce. She will take the place of Donna Hobein, who recently enrolled as a student at the University of Kansas.

Max Merrill, Bud Hannaford, Monty Frazier and sponsor, Leslie Wiebe, attended a Hi-Y congress meeting at Emporia Sept. 19

One of Marion’s outstanding military men, Col W. R. Wolfinbarger, last week received word that the President had nominated him for promotion to the grade of Brigadier General.
