The Marion County sheriff’s office and its two official cars will soon be interconnected with a new two-way radio setup. The order for this almost necessary equipment was placed this week. It probably will be about two months before it can be delivered and put in operation.

It’s a girl this year — first Marion County baby of 1949. She is Janet Eileen Naylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Naylor of Cedar Point. She gave her first lusty cry at 2:13 p.m. Jan. 1. Janet Eileen was attended at birth by Dr. John C. Slifer.

M.B. Sanders and Kenneth Hett left the Marion Municipal Airport this morning, Thursday, for a trip into Old Mexico with the Kansas Flying Farmers group. One hundred men in all are participating in the flight.

Misses Madeline Penland and June Schlotz, birthday twins, had an unusual party Monday night at the Blanch Penland home, assisted by Mrs. Ted Schlotz. Novel twin birth announcements, written in shorthand scribbles, invited the guests: Misses Madelynne McHenry, Phyllis Hagel, Joan Bell, Lois Kelsey, Violet Krispense, Lucy Sandwell, Luetta Bartel, Faith Seifert, Vera Mae Soyez, Mary Ann Bartel, and the two honorees.

Miss Elma Hett is a new assistant at Dr. R.R. Melton’s office. Miss Mary Ann Bartel also is an assistant. They replace Mrs. Robert Gutsch, who resigned Jan. 1. She, with her husband, is living on a farm northeast of Marion.
