Abe Reh, popular Marion trucking operator, has accepted the appointment as undersheriff of Marion County, according to Sheriff James Kline. He will take over the duties of the office on March 1.

Five thousand tons of big, mainline gas pipes have been unloaded in recent weeks along the Rock Island right of way at Aulne, part of a huge project that staggers the imagination. These pipes represent only a small part of the work involved in constructing a gas main from the Hugoton field in western Kansas, across the state to Kansas City and on east.

The snooker tournament at the Marion Recreation last weekend ended with Tip McFadden in the lead position. Dale Anderson was second; Kenneth Bigler, third; and W.L. “Dutch” Steuben, fourth. Cecil Post won the cigar for being the first man eliminated.

Marion people were especially interested in the announcement in Monday’s Topeka Daily Capital of the 10 best-dressed women in Topeka. Listed among the 10 were Mrs. Fred Martin, the former Miss Charlotte Martin, daughter of Mrs. Arthur Martin of Marion, and Mrs. John Dean Sr., widow of a prominent Marion pioneer, John Dean.

Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe King, Kansas City, Mo., announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Mary Helen, to Dr. Curtis Darby, Fresno, California. Their marriage will occur in the near future.
