Next Wednesday, Feb. 16, will be a big day in Marion. It will be the day when local merchants slash many prices in observance of a super Dollar Day.

Marion’s big annual Spring Show will be held this year on March 30 and 31. The event will include elaborate farm machinery and merchandise displays both inside and outside the city building basement, free motion pictures during both days, and big free show both evenings.

Harold Keazer, manager of the local Clark’s Firestone store, received word this week from the Postoffice Department in Washington that his name had been certified as the new postmaster for Marion.

Donald Lee and Douglas James Patry, twin sons of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Patry of rural Florence, are the first babies born in Marion County in 1949.

Tommy Shirley, 8-year-old son of Mrs. Silas Weidenbener, has been confined to his home the past week with a badly bruised eye. He was knocking icicles when one hit him in the eye causing a severe injury.

Pilots, who have been waiting for fair skies, were rewarded Sunday. Keith Wagoner and Dean Schroeder of Hillsboro were doing a bit of aerial photography. Kenneth and Elma Hett were breaking in the Hett-Scharenberg Luscombe. Bill Utting was an up-in-the-air observer of the Sunday morning coyote hunt. Bernard Meysing took the PT19 out to his farm and Mart Sanders planned his next transcontinental flight.
