The large farm home of Leonard Klenda, about 15 miles northwest of Marion, was burned to the ground late Saturday afternoon. The fire, starting on the roof and fanned by a brisk northeasterly breeze, could not be stopped until it had consumed the well-built house, constructed in 1922 by Leonard’s father, Frank Klenda.
The high school band is going to accompany members of the Marion Chamber of Commerce on a booster trip throughout the county next Friday. The trip is to publicize the spring tractor and merchandise show to be held in Marion March 30 and 32.
Graveside services were held Sunday afternoon for Lt. Raleigh Chase Bowlby at the Marion Cemetery. Lt. Bowlby was killed in action April 8, 1944, in the Cassino drive.
Miss Peggy Link, bride-elect of Donald Buethe, will be complimented at a shower Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Fred Knackstedt. Co-hostesses are Mrs. Alden Slusser, Miss Blanch Urbanek, and Miss Naomi Schmidt.
Two of Marion’s older citizens are celebrating their birthdays this St. Patrick’s Day. J.G. Thompson, who makes his home with his daughter, Miss Maude Thompson, is 93 today. Mrs. M.S Bryan is celebrating her 92nd birthday, also on March 17. Her two daughters, Mrs. Al Richardson and Mrs. Walter Siebert, and their families have been enjoying having her with them.
