The state was shocked Wednesday at the news of an air crash Tuesday night near Lyons, which took the lives of three well-known Kansas men including Gene Shipley, 49, farm editor for WIBW, Topeka. The three were in Marion Monday attending the Flying Farmers “soil erosion” survey. They had visited with many farmers and pilots that afternoon at the Marion Municipal Airport.
Marion Warriors baseball team defeated the Lincolnville team 6-2 Tuesday evening in an exciting game. Al Richardson, one of Marion’s most widely known and genuinely liked businessmen, died at his home early Tuesday evening. He was 71 years of age and had been in failing health for several months.
The city of Hillsboro last week signed a contract with the Kansas Power and Light Company to buy the existing electric lines in the city for a sum reported to be $41,500. The city will continue to buy electricity from the power company until its new municipal plant is completed.
