Two questions will be presented to the voters of Marion City Tuesday, May 10, at a special election. The first, shall the licensing of package liquor stores be permitted in Marion? The second, shall the city commission be empowered to issue bonds of the construction of a modern, approved swimming pool in the city?

Military burial services for Cpl. Clnton James Ecker Jr., eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Ecker, were conducted Wednesday at Thompson Funeral Home. Marine Cpl. Ecker died in action May 21 on Tarawa.

Five Marion High School boys and girls will attend Boys’ or Girls’ State meetings this spring. They are Max Merrill, Roger Hannaford Jr., Jim Fruechting, Kathryn Popp and Nora Zeller. Alternates are Norma Sly, Patsy Meysing, Richard Bredemeier, and Tim Burkholder.

Eight children of St. John Nep. Catholic Church received their first communion Sunday. Those receiving the sacrament were Gemma Jirak, Claudine Krch, Marlyn Steiner, Lucille Rudolph, Robert Stika, LaVerne Bina, Robert Konarik, and Robert Makovec.

The big news this week is the rain that fell Saturday afternoon and night resulting in the most severe flood along Clear Creek since early times. The gauge on the Thies place stood at 17 feet at 4 a.m. Flood stage is 14 feet.
