Four new houses are under construction in Marion. Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Bernhardt are building a brick veneer home in the 200 block of North Cedar Street. Homer Reinke and Mrs. Reinke and family will have a ranch-style house of South Roosevelt, directly north of the E.V. Burkholder home. A new addition on North Freeborn Street will be the cottage being built by Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Wiebe. In addition, Arvel Strong is building a house south of their present location on Nickerson Street.

The city commission this week passed an ordinance clearing up one of the more confusing Marion street designations. Grand Avenue, which in reality is East Main Street but ran from the jog at Cedar Street east to the city limits, has now had its name changed and will be known simply as Main Street.

A new ice cream store, with completely new modern fixtures, opened for business in Marion this week. It is the Meadowbrook Ice Cream Store, owned by Meadowbrook Creamery of Emporia and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hunt of Marion. It is located in the Bogart building on Main Street.

Jackson Clothing Store is conducting a novel guessing stunt this weekend. They are offering a prize to the person who can most nearly guess the number of yards of thread used to make a pair of giant overalls, which will be hanging this Saturday from the second story window of their store building. The overalls are about 18 feet long.
