Riddle Quarries announces the purchase of lots from Dr. and Mrs. E.L. Freeland, which lie between Main and Santa Fe streets along the Santa Fe right of way west of Walnut street. According to John Riddle, they will fill in, improve the lots and buildings, and provide a through drive for convenience in loading company trucks and those of customers of their new phosphate service for farmers.

In a three-way change of pastors in the Wichita diocese, Rev. Joseph Goracy comes to St John’s Parish, Pilsen, this week. Rev. Emil J. Kapaun, formerly of Pilsen and more recently of Timken, has re-enlisted at chaplain in the army. Rev. Aloysius Clupny, who has been at Pilsen, will transfer back to his home parish in Timken.

The trial of William E. Gayer, 27, who is charged with the Aug. 16 murder of Herbert J. Kindred of Emporia, has been set for October 25 by District Judge James P. Coleman.

Five permanent and two substitute cheerleaders have been chosen for this football season at Marion High School. The five leaders are Pat Brose, Donna Hobein, Joe Bill Gound, Lavere Metzler, and Joyce Keazer. Substitutes are Doris Meredith and Maurice Hollar.

The Marion Paint Shop, which for the past several months has operated as a partnership between Mr. and Mrs. Fred Knackstedt and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wait, reverted this week to the single ownership of Mr. and Mrs. Knackstedt.

Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hannaford and Ethel Gardner Dale were in Wichita Monday to attend the state convention of the Kansas Title Association.

George Baxter of Marion will head the tour committee and be in charge of the program for the eastern part of the state when the Flying Farmers assemble for their fall tour Oct. 18 and 19. The tour will start from Hutchinson and conclude in Kansas City.
