After losing the final game of the season against Peabody Thanksgiving Day, at least one Marion player got a break that couldn’t be classed as bad. Game captain Kerns Allen planted the traditional kiss on the football queen, Claire Hyde. The queen, attractive freshman daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Preston Hyde, had been elected by vote of the football squad members. Her attendants were Lois Kelsey and Madeline Penland.

L.L. Hadsell arrived in Marion today, Wednesday, to take over his new duties as president of the Farmers and Drovers National Bank. Hadsell’s family is remaining at their Sterling home for the present until their Marion residence is ready for occupancy.

Another of Marion’s war heroes was laid to rest in the Marion cemetery Tuesday afternoon with the interment of Pfc. Fred John Anderson, eldest son of Ben and Mary Anderson. The Army infantryman was killed in action in Central Germany.

A stray cock pheasant took refuge in the chicken yard at the John Siebert residence on North Cedar Street where he was noticed by three pretty interested girls — Pat Brose, Mary Heath and their friend from Peabody, LaVonne Slocombe.

Mr. and Mrs. W. Dale Bailey of Millstadt, Ill., and formerly of Aulne, are announcing the marriage of their daughter, Da5lene, to Max Tharp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Tharp, Peabody. The marriage took place Nov. 23 at Belleville, Ill.
