Marion post office workers watched letter cancellations and postal receipts set a new all-time high last Saturday. The record lasted only one day, however, because Monday’s business proceeded to further new highs. On both days, the canceling machine worked more than 10,000 pieces. The previous record, made last year, was approximately 8,000.

Senator-elect Andy Schoeppel came to Marion County last Friday for a first-hand look into the proposed dam situation on the north Cottonwood River.

Mr. and Mrs. William Stika announce the engagement of their daughter, Loretta, to Richard Noone, son of Mr. and Mrs. P.F. Noone, Tampa. The wedding will take place in the spring.

Incorporation papers were filed this week for the Gilbert-Poppe American Legion Post No. 347 at Lincolnville. Officers include: Wesley R. Fenske, commander; R.H. Fenske, adjutant; R.C. Westbrook, Marion K. Frobenius and Vernon W. Poppe, trustees. Another recent club incorporation in the county was that of the Kiwanis Club, Hillsboro.

Telephone Line 22F patrons held their annual meeting at the home of William Knode Tuesday evening. It was voted for the old officers to hold over for another year. They are Joe Scharenberg, president, and William Knode secretary-treasurer. Linemen for the year are Henry Collett and Orville Scharenberg. Henry Collett is trustee for the dividends received from the late Marion Mutual Company.
