december 30, 1948

As the fast-aging year of 1948 comes to a close, a quick backward glance reveals a number of things. First of all, it was an interesting year for Marion County folks. Standing out above the overall picture is the fact of good farm prices, of good local business in spite of rising costs and prices, and of much progress made in many ways by farms, cities and the county.

Work has been recently completed on refinishing the first floor living quarters of the sheriff at the Marion County Jail. The floors, walls and woodwork have been all gone over. Mr. and Mrs. James Kline moved into their new home there this week, and the Lloyd Davies family moved into their home on S. Lincoln Street.

Mr. and Mrs. David Senner of Tampa announce the engagement of their daughter, Anna Mae, to Mr. Benjamin A. Goertz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry P. Goertz, Durham. The wedding date will be announced later.

Tonsillectomy patients at the Marion Hospital recently were Jon Wayne Thole, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Thole; Ilene and Kenneth Hasenfratz, children of Joe Hasenfratz; Mrs. Hurshel Raleigh, Iuka; Janet Ann Stiller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Stiller; and Carol Hollar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hollar.

Monday evening, Dec. 20, at the First Baptist Church in Durham, Miss Joyce Janzen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Janzen, became the bride of Mr. Dean Duke, son of Mr. and Mrs. D.V. Duke, also of Durham.
