One of the largest crowds in Marion for many years, estimated at around 7,000 people, greeted the Kansas Centennial Parade last Thursday. High school bands from Durham, Lincolnville, Peabody, Hillsboro and Marion gave color to the parade.
The Priscilla Club has voted to spend $25 for redbud trees to be planted in Central Park. A committee composed of Mrs. Jacob Siebert, Mrs. Gordon Wolf, and Mrs. Ira Newcomer is to confer with the city commission and get the trees planted.
The 38 seniors of Marion High School left Monday morning by bus and car for a three-day vacation at Osage Beach in the Ozarks of Missouri. They were accompanied by D.B. Jantz, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Estes, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Williams and Henry Collett.
Mrs. Charles Heerey Jr. was surprised on her birthday Sunday, May 16, to receive a telephone call from her husband who is the service, stationed in Frankfort, Germany. He expects to remain in Frankfort for the remaining 14 months of his service.
Mr. and Mrs. E.F. Schroer, who sold their Cozy Café about two months ago, will open a Western Auto associate store about the middle of June in their building west of Coons Café.
Mrs. Walter Rupp, Marlys and John have moved to Marion and will reside with her father, George Hauser, until her new home is completed on Elm Street.
