With the announcement this week of the opening soon of another new farm machinery agency here, Marion becomes an important center for agricultural equipment since most of the leading manufacturers will have full-fledged agents, shops, and parts departments in operations. The new agency, under the management of H.G. McDaris of Newton, will handle the Massey-Harris implement line.

Word is received in Marion that Sgt. Steve Winchester is missing in the South Pacific. No further details are available.

The traditional observance of Kansas Day in Topeka was canceled this week because of wartime difficulties.

Mrs. Frank Hagans entertained with a dinner Thursday evening for her son, Sgt. 1st Class Bob Hagans, who was here for a few days from Farragut, Idaho. The following were guests: Rosse and Junior Case, Donald Wright, Gene Nelson, Jack Beaston and the honored guest, who has completed his boot training at Farragut and has gone to Shoemaker, California.

Mr. and Mrs. Roland Stenzel are the parents of a son born Jan. 17 at Salem Hospital, Hillsboro. Mother and baby are doing nicely.

Christian Church members gave a reception and basket dinner Sunday for their new minister, Dr. Eugene N. Duty. It was followed by a program in the afternoon.

Miss Donna Powell entertained members of the MCK Club with a chili supper at her home Jan. 17. Others present were Rose Marie Avery, Coleen Vogel, Sylvia Stika, Ruth Klein, Anita Seifert and Alta Stenzel.
