Herbert J. Kindred, 60-year-old Emporia businessman was brutally beaten, shot repeatedly, and left dying on a lonely road five miles west of Florence. Kindred’s body was found Wednesday morning beside the little used abandoned road near the Fairplay schoolhouse by Louis Hargett, a farmer living about 10 miles south of Marion. Robbery and a desirable get-away car are suspected as motives for the killing.

Twelve Boy Scouts spent an enjoyable week at Roaring River State Park near Cassville, Missouri. Those attending the camp were Dan Brodhead, Don E.cker, Ted Heath, Dale Hobein, Billy McKibbin, Marion Moon, John Newcomer, James Propp, Dennis Richards, Harold Shields, Joe Soyez, and Marvin Wunsch.

The Marion Creamery pasteurized milk customers are happy over the new square bottles put in use recently. Main features of the new shape, according to manager Gordon Wolf, is that they take up considerably less space in the refrigerator and are easier to handle. The firm has also recently installed new bottle washing and milk processing equipment to their modern plant.

Donna Miesse entertained last Friday evening at a back-to-school party for some of her friends. Those attending were Patricia Platt, Joyce Keazer, Dolores Razor, Patsy Hett, June Avery, Richard Rhode, Roger Ireland, Jim Fruechting, Tim Burkholder, and Lee Hett.
