School lunch programs in the state are increasing at a steady rate. According to county superintendent J.H. Franzen, Marion County now has 1,081 children participating in the programs at 12 schools.

The new car purchased recently by the city commission for use by the city marshal should be here this weekend. Appropriate insignia will be stenciled on the car.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kelsey announce the engagement of their daughter, Treva Mae, to Jack Ross Kerbs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kerbs of Durham. The wedding date has not been set.

The recent “Toys for Tots” drive conducted by the American Legion and its auxiliary met with fine local response. Over 400 toys of all kinds were packed into three large crates this week and sent to Philadelphia. Hundreds of crates from over the country will be loaded onto a ship and sent to children in European countries.

Notices of unpaid balances on pledges to the Community Hospital fund are being mailed out this week,

Ronnie Post’s 14th birthday and Johnny Waner’s 13th were celebrated with a joint birthday supper last Tuesday evening. The meal, served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Post, was attended by 23 boys. Mr. and Mrs. John Waner assisted with the party.
