Physician Ralph R. Melton took over as chief of staff of St. Luke Hospital as of Jan. 1 and will serve in that capacity for the year. He replaces G.J. Goodsheller, who has served since the opening of the hospital. The chief of staff is elected each year by the medical staff.
Robert J. Silhan and Arnold L. Holt announce this week that they will open the former Bratton service station on W. Santa Fe St. this Saturday. It will operate under the name of Bob and Arnie’s Service.
Margaret Sellers, Florence, placed second in a state cherry pie contest Saturday at Wichita. Her sister is Betty Sellers, who has won the Marion County contest three times and the state contest once.
Former Marion residents Mr. and Mrs. Abe Reh of Prescott, Arizona announce the engagement of their daughter, Marilyn, to Troy T. Murry Jr. of Prescott. Their wedding date has been set for Easter, April 1. The bride-elect is a 1954 graduate of Marion High School.
Mayme French, Marion, received $140 in this week’s Cash Day drawing. Other winners were Anna Linn, Marion, $15; Media Amick, Marion, $5; Adolph Woerz, Hillsboro, $10; and H.G. Richardson, Marion, $5.
