Insurance agents were swamped with reports of storm damage Thursday morning after a big blow Wednesday evening that covered the northern part of the county.
Six Boy Scouts of Marion Troop 102 and their leader, James Meisner, spent a week camping and having scout activities at Quivera Council’s Camp Ta-Wa-Ko-Ni near Augusta. Scouts who attended included Gailen Broadstreet, Mike Childs, Larry Evans, Steve Greenemeyer, James R. Meisner, and Dick Morse.
Janice Childs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Childs, celebrated her 8th birthday with a backyard wiener roast Aug. 1. Invited were Connie Allen, Suzanne Bailey, Loretta Smith, Elaine Rogers, Anita VanBuren, Pamela Vinduska, and Pat Warneke.
The city commission this week hired Lavern Hoffman and Larry Hoover, adding them to the city utilities crews. The boys will work until school time and provide additional help so regular city employees may take vacations.
A vacation party for members of the youth center The Reservation will be Friday evening at Marion Skating Rink. Those from 13 to 19 are welcome. A special invitation is being extended to those who just turned 13 or will during the school year even if they are not members of the youth center. Chaperones for the evening will be Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Summervill and Mr. and Mrs. June Jost.
