8 Centre students qualify for state forensics tournament

Centre High School was the site of the Wheat State League forensics tournament April 7.

Centre, Peabody-Burns, Goessel, Wakefield, Solomon, and White City schools were joined by non-league Herington and Chase County. There were 101 entries in various events.

Centre finished in second place, with eight of 12 students qualifying for state competition by placing first or second.

First-place qualifiers were Kevin Lewis, extemporaneous speaking; Abigail Svoboda and Kristin Vinduska, improvised duet acting; and Carissa Shields and Cassy Thompson, duet acting.

Second-place qualifiers were Makenzie Deines, informative speaking; Vinduska, oration; Lewis and Deines, improvised duet acting; and Lewis, humorous solo acting.

Ally Basore: informative speaking, 5th; extemporaneous speaking, 3rd. Svoboda: oration, 6th; prose interpretation, 6th. Terren Thompson and Barrett Smith: improvised duet acting, 5th. Terren Thompson: oration, 4th. Shania Svitak: oration, 3rd. Svitak and Cassy Thompson: improvised duet acting, 6th. Basore and Vinduska: duet acting, 4th. Cassy Thompson: humorous solo acting, 3rd.
