Carrol D. “Bill” Huggins, 83, Herington, died July 30 at Medicalodges, Herington.

Born Feb. 25, 1926, to Leo and Emma Huggins on a farm northwest of Wamego, he was the youngest of five children.

He graduated in 1944 from Wamego High School, and entered the U.S. Navy, where he was a signalman 3rd Class on the USS Lamar during World War II, transporting troops in the Pacific Theater of action. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1950 with a degree in business administration and a major in accounting.

On June 5, 1960, he married Jean Sims at Wamego Methodist Church. He worked as an accountant for Balderson Inc., in Wamego until 1970, when he and his wife opened a store in Herington.

His wife, parents, and four sisters preceded him in death.

Survivors include three sons, Jay of Manhattan, Troy of New Port Rachel, Fla., and Tod of Gloucester, Va.; two granddaughters; and his companion, Lucille Tiede of Herington.

Services were Friday at First Baptist Church, Herington. The Rev. Darrell Geist officiated. Burial with military honors followed at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
