'Charlie Brown' is coming to Centre

Staff writer

Centre High School will present the musical, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” Nov. 6.

Director Lynley Remy decided to produce the musical as a choir class project when the school struggled to find enough adult volunteers for a fall play.

She selected the 1967 musical because it is a series of brief skits. That makes it easier for students to memorize their lines, she said.

Making the play a class project has an advantage over the usual school play. In rehearsals for the play last year, the first time the entire cast practiced on stage was the afternoon of the performance, Remy said.

Students were excited to perform the musical, she said.

“I get to be something funny on stage,” junior Ripley Howard said. She will play Charlie Brown’s younger sister, Sally. “Yeah, that’s the coolest character.”

Cast members are also doing behind-the-scenes tasks like costuming, set construction, hair, and makeup.

Jacob Jirak is cast as the titular blockhead. Katie Remy plays Lucy; Josie Peterson, Snoopy; Rustyn Kerbs, Linus; and Michael Beeler, Schroeder. The rest of the CHS choir class will be the chorus.

The sole performance will be 7 p.m., Nov. 6 at the CHS gymnasium. Tickets cost $3 and will be available at the door.
