‘Rednecks’ to gather in Ramona on July 4

More than $500 will be awarded at the annual Redneck in Ramona parade and festivities July 4.

The day will begin at 8 a.m. with a 2-mile run/walk and a 10-kilometer race. Breakfast will be served 8 to 10 a.m. at Ramona Senior Center. Donations will benefit the senior center and Ramona Park.

Concessions will be open noon to midnight. Knights of Columbus will serve sausage and hot dogs beginning at 5 p.m. Also in the afternoon will be a cakewalk at the fire stations and a bake sale at the senior center.

Poker runs for motorcyclists and children on bicycles will begin at 2 p.m. The James Weber Memorial 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament also will begin at 2 p.m. in the park.

At 3 p.m., drivers will test their skills in a lawnmower obstacle course, and children can cool off on a water slide. There will also be dart games and a dunk tank.

Mule-drawn wagon rides will be available 4 to 9 p.m.

Registration for participating in the parade will be 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. with the parade beginning at 7 p.m. The Greenhorns will perform at 7:30 p.m., after the parade.

The theme every year is Hillbilly Redneck. Awards are given for floats, vehicles, children 12 and younger, teens 13 through 19, animals, town spirit, patriotic, and walking entries. Entries portraying the redneck theme will be given the highest scores.
