Celebration is this weekend in Florence

Every small community has its share of citizens devoted to preserving their town’s history. Florence is no exception.
For 60 years, Neva Robinson has called Florence home. She has a wealth of knowledge about Florence, its people, and its history. And it’s no surprise that she has been picked as this year’s grand marshal of the annual Florence Labor Day parade.
Robinson moved to Florence in 1949 with her husband, Leo Reid. They had five children — Riley, Kristin, Tom, Jim, and Kevin. Leo passed away in 1982. Then, in 1987, she married Ed Robinson.
For years she commuted to Assaria where she was postmaster. She retired from that position in 1990.
If a person was to ask Robinson of what she is most proud, she will tell you it’s her family. But she also is proud of her membership in the Florence Historical Society where she serves on the board of trustees. She enjoys volunteering for projects at the Harvey House.
Robinson’s other accomplishments include serving as the first chairwoman of Florence Housing Authority board.
This past year she has been instrumental in getting Florence water tower on the State Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places.
The Florence Labor Day Committee felt it was time to honor Robinson’sr accomplishments and devotion to keeping history alive and well in Florence.
