According to accident reports released Friday:
SHERIFF
US-50 east of 70th Rd.
An 19-year-old driver and her 21-year-old male passenger, whom a back-seat passenger said had been arguing at the time, were airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita after all three were injured when the driver lost control of her rented Chevy Impala at 2 a.m. Oct. 8.
Sierra Smith of 3333 W. 21st St., Wichita, reportedly lost control of the Impala, which went through a ditch and a barbed wire fence, striking trees on Fred Berns’ farm.
She and passenger Tevin Johnson, 21, of 2809 Meadow Oaks, Wichita, were transported by Life Team helicopter. Johnson reportedly was partially ejected from the vehicle.
The back-seat passenger, Kylie Jackson, 25, of 738 S. Mission Rd., Wichita, was taken to Wesley by Peabody ambulance.
The Impala, owned by Kwik Cars of Wichita, suffered extensive damage, according to Sgt. Larry Starkey’s report.
US-56/77 north of 230th Rd.
Attempting to avoid a deer, Gloria Safarik, 24, of Junction City, swerved her 2006 Jeep Liberty into a ditch at 7:25 a.m. Oct. 13, striking a fence and tree owned by Doug Kjellin.
Neither she nor her passenger, Josef Safarik, 26, of the same address, reported injuries. However, the Jeep sustained undercarriage damage and had to be towed.
130th Rd. east of Chisholm Trail Rd.
Devin Nolte, 15, of Canton was transported by Marion ambulance to Hillsboro Community Hospital after he lost control of a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country on a wet roadway at 4:55 p.m. Oct. 13.
The minivan, owned by Richard Nolte of the same address, went into a ditch and struck a Flint Hills Rural Electric utility pole.
Deputy Mike Ottensmeier’s report indicated that the driver had a restricted license and complied with the terms of the restriction but in Ottensmeier’s opinion was driving too fast for conditions.
K-15 north of 260th Rd.
A cow owned by Kevin Winters ventured onto K-15 and was struck at 9 p.m. Oct. 14 by a 2005 Chevy Impala owned and driven by Tylar Brockman, 16, of 1404 E. 10th St., Newton.
Reports indicated that Brockman was not injured. The cow’s fate was not indicated.
100th and Indigo Rds.
Esther Richert, 33, of Hillsboro told deputies that brakes on a 2002 Chevy Suburban she was driving failed, causing her to slide off Indigo Rd., over a culvert, and into a ditch while attempting to turn onto 100th Rd. at 7 p.m. Oct. 15.
No injuries were reported, but the Suburban, owned by Rusty Moss of a different Hillsboro address, sustained damage to its undercarriage and had to be towed.
