Law enforcement agencies released these reports this past week:

SHIERFF

120th Rd. east of Diamond Rd.

While trying to avoid a deer at 5:25 a.m. June 2, Jack Martin, 72, Hillsboro, drove his 2008 Chevy Impala into a ditch. No tow truck was needed.

K-15 north of 270th Rd.

Alex Hanschu, 80, Ramona, hit a deer with his 2015 Chevy Impala at 11:01 p.m. June 3.

K-15 north of 240th Rd.

A northbound 2012 Ford Taurus owned by the 8th Judicial District, which includes Marion and Dickinson Counties, struck a deer 11:15 p.m. June 5.

The driver and sole occupant was identified as Todd M. Heitschmidt, 53, Abilene.

According to published reports, Heitschmidt formerly worked for the 8th District but transferred in 2006 to a court administrator’s position with the 28th District, which includes Saline and Ottawa Counties.

US-77 south of 180th Rd.

Steven Sorensen, 67, Valley Center, hit a deer with his 1996 Chevy Suburban at 9:03 p.m. June 7.

The camper had to be towed. Alexis Sanchez, 13, Wichita, was listed as a passenger.

K-15 south 180th Rd.

Dakota Beauchman, 16, Abilene, reported falling asleep while driving at 2 p.m. Thursday.

The 2002 Chevy Impala he was driving crossed the road’s centerline and went into the opposite ditch. He overcorrected, steering into a guardrail on the other side of the road before the car ended up striking an embankment back in opposite ditch.

The car, owned by Stephen Laun Jr. of the same Abilene address, suffered damage on all sides and to its undercarriage but was driven away. No injuries were reported nor were any citations issued.
