Adela Byer

Adela T. Byer, 94, died Aug. 3 at Charter House in Rochester, Minn.

Born Feb. 10, 1915, in Chino, Calif., she was the eldest of five daughters of Arthur E. and Lucy (Williams) Tissot. She graduated from Chino High School in 1932, Upland College in 1934, and Huntington Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1939.

She married Everett Byer on March 21, 1940, in Chino. They lived in Hamlin, where she was a homemaker and mother.

She was employed at Hiawatha Community Hospital as a registered nurse.

In 1986, the couple moved to Apostolic Christian Village in Sabetha and to Shorewood Commons in Rochester in 2008.

Her husband preceded her in death Oct. 23, 2008. She moved to Charter House in May.

An infant daughter, Ruth, and four sisters, Constance Martin, Pearl Ashley, Evelyn Warner, and Pauline Longanecker also preceded her.

Survivors include two sons, David Byer of Rochester and Les Byer of Marion; a daughter, Janet Groff of Sioux Center, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services were Saturday at Popkess Mortuary Chapel, Sabetha. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Memorials to Northridge Church Building Fund or Gideons International may be made in care of the funeral home.
