Staff writer

Class reunions, a parade, a golf tournament, games, a picnic in the park, a band concert, and alumni recognition will be featured activities of the 108th annual Old Settlers’ Day celebration sponsored by Marion Kiwanis Club.

A noon golf tournament Sept. 27 at the country club kicks off a weekend full of activities.

An all-class reunion, to which the public is welcome, will take place from noon to midnight.

An Old Settlers’ Day parade on Main St. will begin at 11 a.m. Sept. 28.

The parade theme will be “The Eagle Has Landed, to the Moon and Beyond.”

The family of Marion resident Dean Armstrong, whose brother, Neil Armstrong, was the first man to set foot on the moon, will be grand marshals.

A noon to 1 p.m. picnic in Central Park will follow the parade. The meal deal will feature sandwiches, chips, beans, pie, water, and soft drinks.

Games in the park will begin at 1 p.m.

Marion High School Band will present a concert at 2 p.m.

Recognition of Marion High School alumni will be at 2:30 p.m.

Featured classes for this year’s Old Settlers’ Day are those ending in years ending in 4 and 9.
