Marion County Emergency Medical Services responded to 115 calls for ambulances in September, keeping the agency on pace for a record-setting year.

EMS responded to 103 calls in Sept. 2008, when it set a county record of 1,151 calls in a year. Through Sept. 2008, EMS went on 848 calls. This year that number was 869.

Of the September calls, 42 were no-transports, 35 medical emergencies, 13 falls, 12 transfers, five canceled calls, three standbys, two cardiac emergencies, two motor-vehicle accidents, and one other.

The Hillsboro ambulance unit responded to the most calls, with 48. Marion went on 27 calls, Peabody, 21; Florence, 11; Tampa, four; backup unit, four.

The Goessel first-response unit was called out six times. Lincolnville went out three times, and Durham once.

EMS Director Steve Smith said collections are up from this time in 2008, but revenue is down. He said the high number of no-transports may have something to do with that.
