Two women are nursing injuries and a man faces multiple criminal charges after a confrontation allegedly erupted May 1 inside of Ampride and Subway in Hillsboro.

Jerrod P. Rogers, 24, Hillsboro, allegedly sought out his wife, an Ampride clerk, Jennifer L. Rogers, 36, at 7:33 p.m. to talk about a separation she requested earlier that day, Hillsboro Police Chief Dan Kinning said.

“My understanding is that they were going to talk but he got worked up,” Kinning said. “He was angry about the separation.”

Soon after Jerrod Rogers entered the store, Kinning said, he allegedly went around the counter and began to punch and kick Jennifer.

Elizabeth Bromely, a Subway employee, allegedly attempted to intervene, Kinning said. However, she also became a second target.

“Elizabeth tried to pull Jerrod off of Jennifer but he pushed and slammed her against the counter several times,” Kinning said.

Jerrod then reportedly redirected his anger back at his wife.

“He picked up a folding stepstool and began hitting her with it while Elizabeth returned to Subway,” Kinning said. “Jerrod’s father, William ‘Mark’ Rodgers, then attempted to intervene and Jennifer ran into Subway.”

Kinning said Jerrod pursued the women, breaking the glass door between the two businesses with the stepstool.

Bromely and Jerrod’s father both called 911, and Hillsboro police arrived to take Jerrod into custody on allegations of aggravated battery, domestic battery, aggravated assault and battery, and criminal damage to property.

Both women refused medical transport but Kinning said they sought medical attention at Hillsboro Community Hospital.

Jennifer sustained multiple contusions and Bromely had to get stitches on the back of one of her hands, Kinning said.
