Another business coming to Marion

Auto House will build in park

Managing editor

Auto House is allowed to purchase, build, and operate a vehicle towing and recovery business at Marion Business Park.

Marion City Council followed the recommendation made by Marion Planning Commission and approved a conditional use permit Friday morning to allow the Galva business to open a business in Marion.

The council also approved a zoning change for the former Elgin Apartments, at Third and Santa Fe streets, from medium density residential to commercial. The planning commission also recommended approval of the change.

Owner Jim Cloutier has been renovating the former Elgin House Hotel and apartment building. Plans are in the works to reopen as a restaurant and bed and breakfast.

City Administrator David Mayfield reported Marion County Improvement District #2 had paid its past-due water bill — in full.

The district, which distributes water and sewer to Marion County Lake residents, had disputed a water bill from the city. At a previous meeting, the council had given City Attorney Dan Baldwin the authority to proceed with a lawsuit, if necessary, to collect on the outstanding bill.

The next regular council meeting is at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the city building.
