Antlers add to interior décor at the Williams’ home

Staff writer

Teeny Williams of Marion County Lake determined years ago to enjoy life no matter what came her way. In 1999, she had open-heart surgery. Then she went through two bouts with cancer and two regimens of chemotherapy treatment which threatened to destroy her.

“I cried a lot,” she said. “But one day I decided to stop feeling sorry for my life, accept what it brings me, and enjoy life.”

Williams appears healthy and is full of life. The walls and shelves in her home are filled with interesting items, including many with a Native American flavor.

Her latest additions include antlers. When she and her husband, Pete, were on a trip to the Southwest several years ago, they stopped at a hotel that displayed antlers in the lobby. From then on, Williams said, she wanted some of her own.

About a year ago, her daughter Barbara Hill, who lives in Montana, sent her a bunch of antlers and related items.

Pete polished them and helped Teeny hang three complete racks, one from an elk and two from deer. Williams fashioned six antler points into a wind chime and placed more than 30 other antler parts on shelves throughout the kitchen and living areas. The antlers blend in and enhance the items already on display. Williams also has an antler lamp.

The slim, fashionably dressed, and spunky 81-year-old woman delights in spending time in her home and keeping her possessions sparkling clean. Keeping all those items free of dust is a challenge.

“You’ll never, ever find me without something to do,” she said.
