Art competition is open

Entries are being accepted for the 2012 Congressional Arts Competition. High school students in Kansas’ First Congressional District are eligible to participate. The winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

“Last year, I received several outstanding submissions from the many talented young artists in our district,” Rep. Tim Huelskamp said. “The judges stated that although choosing a winner was difficult, they were greatly inspired by the level of talent in our state. I am excited for this year’s competition, and look forward to receiving more submissions from talented Kansas students.”

The 2012 competition will be hosted by Sterling College in Sterling.

Awards will be given in each category and will be announced  by Huelskamp at a reception at 4 p.m. April 28 in Cooper Hall, at Heritage Hall on the Sterling College Campus, located at 125 W. Cooper, Sterling, KS.

For more information, interested students and art teachers can contact Lynn Ballinger at Huelskamp’s Dodge City district office at (620) 225-0172.  Competition guidelines can also be found at http://huelskamp.house.gov/serving-you/art-competition.
