Atrazine researcher to report reservoir findings

Staff writer

A Kansas State University professor specializing in water quality will report on Marion Reservoir water quality at 7 p.m. June 18 in the Marion city building basement.

Associate Professor Phil Barnes began monitoring water quality at the reservoir in 2008, watershed coordinator Peggy Blackman told Marion County commissioners Monday.

E. coli and atrazine contamination will be among the contaminants he discusses, Blackman said.

The meeting will be open to the public.

In other business:

  • Blue-green algae have developed along the dam at the reservoir. Efforts are under way to prevent problems for Hillsboro and Marion water treatment plants.
  • Hedlund Electric of McPherson received an extension until July 3 to install a courthouse generator. Parts have been delayed in shipping.
