Attorney General warns of scams

The attorney general is warning residents of scammers attempting to gain personal information or hijacking computers via phone.

The caller will say they are with a well-known computer company and need resident’s information to install an update over the phone on a resident’s computer to protect it from viruses.

Once the scammer has access, they will be able to see any personal or financial records saved to the computer and send out spam emails or viruses to email contacts.

Those that may have fallen victim to the scam are asked to file a complaint at http://www.inyourcornerkansas.org or call (800) 432-2310, and to have the software removed and change passwords to important sites.
